From Tas Police Facebook

Police are seeking the owner of the backpack which has been found unattended in the Walls of Jerusalem area on 23 November.
The backpack was located 2km east of Mount Jerusalem and 2km north west of Lake Fanny just west of Powena Creek (see map below).
It was found by hikers in the area and does not appear to have been there very long.
The backpack has since been removed from the area by the Westpac Police Rescue Helicopter and has been taken to the Launceston Police Station.
"If you own the backpack or know who may own it, please call Tasmania Police on 131 444 and quote reference number 118-02122020," Inspector Darren Hopkins said.

I hope that it wasn't left there temporarily while someone went for a side trip. That would be really awkward..
Anyway I hope the individual is fit and healthy and gets reunited with their pack.

That looks pretty well where you would leave a pack if you were doing a sidetrip from Powena up to the high point of the Great Pine Tier. Methinks there may be a really pissed-off peakbagger out there somewhere.

This was at least 10 days ago, Taspol a bit slow off the mark?

More information including extra photos on facebook including the contents of the pack and some notes re the walk which might indicate they were heading north maybe.....

Does it say camp at Powena Ck? The co-ords look like they were going out and back? But nothing listed even near the area. Strange no tent stove food, maybe a dog dragged it off. The last mystery of this kind here didn't end well.

having looked at it a bit more at their itinerary and it doesn't look too good. The contents of the pack suggest that they may have set up camp somewhere else and proceeded for a walk with this as a day pack. seems a little strange to have wandered off the lakeside pads and left a pack where it was found unless, it was on a prominent rock for easy retrieval which didn't prove to be the case.

It looks like the sort of itinerary you'd expect from anglers. They're not covering a great deal of ground, just circling around Christy's, Lunka, into the Powena valley, etc. That's mostly open, easy going with plenty of camping options.

Seems like there's a happy ending. He must have forgot where he set it down or something.

According to the TasPol facebook page, it was left behind when the owner was rescued in March.

Oh well. All's well that ends well.
