Frenchmans Cap

Postby Stocky54 » Sun 17 Jan, 2021 10:11 pm

Thinking about planning a trip to Frenchmans Cap...

Curious about the summit ascent. How difficult is the ascent and scramble near the summit?

Do you need to have a level of scrambling ability at that point?

Thanks in advance...

There is a short section up a steep gully that make you think for few seconds if is raining. The rock is still grippy. An easy scramble (and very nice section from Tahune to the summit).

Wot 'e sed ^

"A level" of scrambling ability, yes, but it's about as basic a level as can be imagined. The section in question has at least three potential lines up it (straight up, zig zag to left, zig zag to right) and is only a few metres. Otherwise it's just a steepish walk.
If you're nervy about heights, just keep away from the cliff edges (especially when windy) on top.
