Hi all,

Can anyone tell me what the overnight camping prospects are on the Mt Field East track? I'd prefer a tent to a hut.

Also, is it insanely busy up there in the Summer?

Hi Drifting - there aren't any spots that spring readily to mind, but if the wind doesn't blow too hard, there should be a few suitable nooks. Mind you the wind does tend to howl through that area (Windy Moor is named that for a reason) Water should be found in pools & a small creek near that moor, but tree cover is sparse.

I don't think crowds will be an issue. It's not as popular as the Tarn Shelf/K Col/Field West part of the park. Pick your weather & you should have a great time,

I guess it depends on how far you intend walking. Most people visit Field East as a day walk, as the circuit can be done very comfortably in a day.

The track via Lake Nicholls does not have much in the way of camping spots; it is either quite rocky or has dense vegetation.
The section from Lake Fenton has a couple of spots but they are not near water and the Windy Moor area is humpy from low vegetation and tussocks. You may find a spot in the trees at the base of Field East, but it only takes 1:30 to there from Lake Fenton. See the notes on the track.

However there are a couple of walks that are off track that require a couple of days; you would need the Dobson and Ellendale 1:25k maps to discover them.
