Tasmanian Ranger Association Relay for Timor-Leste

Mon 20 Sep, 2021 12:51 pm

G'day all

Just wanted to give you a heads up about the Tasmanian Rangers Associations major fundraiser this year. We are kicking off a relay walk/bike/kayak from Penguin to Cockle Creek, primarily through the Tasmanian Wilderness World heritage area to raise funds for the Forest Guards in Timor-Leste.

This is being undertaken by TRA members in their own time with support from Parks and Wildlife, Conservation International and the Thin Green Line.

Anyway, jump on the link below, and if you can spare a couple of dollars to support the folk in Timor-Leste ( and the folks taking on this challenge ) click on 'donate' and be part of it.

Special thanks to Tastrax for being the map master for the event, and to 'That Mad Belgian' and others who have done it for the inspiration !

Cheers

Well done Binder and the rest of the crew. Lets hope COVID doesn't get in the way and the weather gods are smiling on you!

If there are any OpenStreetMap nerds out there I am also on a mission to get the area well mapped during the month of October.

If you want to really make your donation count then donate now - if $500 is donated today then it will be matched by a donor. Help them get to $10,000 by midnight

Thanks everyone involved, this is awesome stuff! I've worked a bit on forestry in Timor and the forest guards don't get much by way of support, and are out there doing their best when the land and forest laws and regulations are still in the early stages of being rolled out. Good luck!
