Western Arthurs - old camp at base of Alpha Moraine

Has anyone stayed at the old campsite at the base of Alpha Moraine? I have seen it just to the left of the track before the ascent but it was in bad weather and it was very boggy? Also Chapman says water is from the gully to the south - has anyone sourced water from here?

Not far from there is a huge rectangular boulder. I slept under that. It's also just bare dirt, but it was dry. And I didn't need to set up a tent. I can't remember where we got the water from (that was about 20 years ago), but there was water about somewhere nearby. Always take a yabbie straw when walking in the SW, just to be on the safe side.

It was practically flooded when we went past. Not a particularly appealing (or roomy... or sheltered) spot to pull up for the night. Unless circumstances dictate, hole up at Junction Creek or push on to Lake Fortuna.
+1 on a yabby straw. Most times of the year you can practically just dig a hole in buttongrass/marsh areas and draw enough water to get you out of trouble.

I have camped at the base of AM. There are at least 3 nice spots around there (one is the boulder) but we chose the flat clearing near the creek. Enough room for 3 tents. To me is an ideal spot, better than junction ck. It rained all night but we had no issues.

We also camped near that creek (not Junction Ck) near the bottom of Alpha Moraine a couple of times. It was a really nice spot!

But not that bare muddy mess right at the base of the moraine. I always walked right past that one.
