A frame scout huts ? Lake Rowallan

Postby gorby » Mon 14 Jun, 2010 8:56 pm

Does anyone on the forum have some pics of the huts ( scout huts? ) on the eastern side of Lake Rowallan.

They were burnt down some time ago and I never got to see them .
You could only access them by boat or by walking to them.

They must have been a good setup going by the remains that still exist.

Pretty sure it was built by St Patrick's College. If you ring the college I am sure they would help.

I'm investigating this for an upcoming article. Does anyone have photos of the hut now?

Hey, that's a great picture. That is one huge hut! I had no idea.

The picture also illustrates some gear of the times quite nicely (including the ol' hand-held overnight bag).

Wouldn't that be the item that appears on the maps as "Hut", just south of the mouth of the Fish River ?

On '82 Mersey Land Tenure (ed2) there's no track or Hut indicated but by '94 (ed4) they are there.

I went for a walk to the hut site today, the track shown on the map is completely overgrown now. Here are a few photos of the remains.

Alas, LISTMap is becoming more and more unreliable every year. Heaps of things no longer in existence still showing, and no doubt also lots of new stuff missing.
