ragged jack info

Fri 25 Mar, 2011 7:42 am

Does anyone have any info on the start point for ragged jack. I had a look for it on a wet winters day last year but gave up. PM me if needed. Thanks.

A group of us did it... gee, must've been 1.5 years ago now. ILUV will have the details, I'd give him a nag if I were you. [EDIT: it may be documented in the Abels book, but I don't have it on me at work :D ]

My recollection: There's a road slightly NW of the peak, I think we started there. I remember (I think) we started on an old 4wd track that followed up the left of a small river valley and then crossed the river on a stony ford higher up. Eventually the 4wd track ran out and we had to cross a small section of forest, then some boulder scree and around the left of a rock pinnacle, up to the summit "plateau" and from there a short and slightly scrubby jaunt to the summit.

ILUV or MJD will correct probably all of that...

EDIT: Ah yes, the rockclimbing/bouldering site thesarvo has the access info. Amazingly this matches my recollection...

A nice little bag I must say, St Pats is a personal fave. May as well do Markham Heights while you're on Ben and knock off the Nth section. Peakbagging is all about efficiency.

Agreed, I have been up St Pats 4 times now, it's a really great little peak / walk.
It's also one of the easiest peaks on the Connoisseurs List & a worthy inclusion IMHO :D

Those ones around the ski village / road on Ben are all pretty easy & worth doing in 1 visit.
Mensa Moor is a longer / harder option tho, right Oll?

I do things inefficiently, this will be my third trip to the north of the Ben and have walked within 5 mins of legges tor summit twice but haven't bothered as its sooo ugly. This will finish off all the Ben except wilmot (have been up stacks 3 times already, see what I mean by inefficient?).

Helps if you can avoid putting your foot down a hole.

So true. Looks like someone crashed a boat up there with all the wood lying around.

Who'd know? Those old books are pretty vague at the best of times - don't give grid refs do they?
