Finally, I have finished the first edit of my Challenge Trip Report on my Blog.

TGO Challenge 2013 Trip Report

I'm not particularly trying to get traffic to my blog, but the wordpress interface is a lot easier to use for writing something like this than the forum software (it has a very neat draft mode). If people would rather it was here on the forum, I'll be happy to copy it over in due course.

Proof I made it to the east coast:

Photos are great. If a bit bleak. But I haven't made it through them all yet - underpowered laptop at present. You chose a really good one for the opener.
BUT I couldn't find the trip report, only the daily updates on new gear for the trip! or the gear list.....

Help?

I'd do it again. I've thoroughly enjoyed both crossings.

Thinking about the landscape, the west is far more captivating country for me compared to the eastern area. If I went again, I might choose a (non-TGO Challenge) walk in the west like the Cape Wrath Trail. Maybe do some westerly walking followed by the Challenge, or maybe something different. Only downside is the weather gets wilder and wetter the further west and north you get apparently.

Plenty of places to walk. I'd like to do the Larapinta, and I'd also like to do something in the Arctic circle as well as the local places I routinely walk. Spoilt for choices! :)

Looks like a stunning area. Did you find it strange walking and seeing so many signs of other people, or was it a welcome relief?

Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful.

I guess I have gotten used to it. There are sections where there is little obvious sign of people, but if you look around a bit there are always relics from previous occupants: pathways, fence posts, croft ruins, etc. you can certainly stay away from current civilization if you want to, previous civilization is a bit harder to avoid.

When I first discovered the challenge, Bob was putting out podcasts on the outdoors station. Listening to those gives a great perspective on the walk. Bob didn't do the challenge on my first, but I got to meet him on the 2013 effort. Great to meet him and many of the long term challengers on both trips.

Bob and Rose run Bpl.co.uk which is a handy gear resource with great service. They won a small business award last year. Well done!
