Thanks for posting Wayno, it's good to be able to see what some of the overseas trails are like

I can 'hike' Zion when I do my treadmill workout at the gym (amongst other US hiking trails) with interactive videos and commentary.
Keeps it interesting.
I'm always surprised at how groomed many of their popular walking trails are
And still, multiple people lose their lives each year falling from heights

Great views

Thanks Wayno
It is a great place - and it looks like a good workout, even if some folk would rather it was rougher and more life threatening :?

Compagnoni Pass in Kanangra Boyd NP, NSW has one big chain and a few spikes that makes that Zion climb look like a child's picnic.
Americans tend to over dramatise their walks/climbs.

That is a nice walk, I've done it a couple of times. It doesn't take all that long, just a few hours if I remember correctly. Some people do get nervous on the little bit that's exposed but it's pretty tame by many measures. The video didn't do Zion justice however as it focused mostly on the people involved rather than the place. Zion is amazing, breathtaking actually.

Despite the fact that it's equipped with chains for most of the scary sections, Angels Landing is still pretty scary. While Compagnoni Pass is more technically challenging, CP's a lot less exposed, and is over a lot more quickly. I certainly felt a lot less comfortable on the Angels Landing walk, and this is from someone who spends most of summer dangling on a rope in the canyons. The ridge slopes off both sides, and usually has a fine layer of sand that makes you nervous with your footing.

Additionally, we were the first people out to Angels Landing the day we did it, so we didn't have to contend with much passing of people – it would get worse later in the day!

Keep in mind that our National parks are geared towards the masses, with rangers, rules, and limits on where you can go. The wilderness areas of our National forests and Bureau of Land Management are much less groomed, more remote, and require you to be responsible for yourself.

The Subway, one of the easier canyons (or harder hikes - as they did in the video you can avoid abseiling, but it's actually safer just to abseil). Some very pretty and often photographed sections.

Well Tom, I'm going to find out for myself on August 20 next year, too good an opportunity to miss.

Angels landing was a lot of fun to do. I've done it twice and still have a strong desire to do it again. Did not like the crowds though. It might be scary for those with a fear of heights but it sure does not stop the masses.

Observation point trail on the other hand has way less people, may not be as "fun" but it has varied terrain that makes the hike a joy to do and some wonderful side distractions.

Bit hard to see but my avatar is a shot of me on observation point.
