It sounds like he went missing between the walk from Ghorepani to Ghandruk. I've walked that same route in 2013 and walked through, stopping at Tadapani for something to eat. But I can imagine it would be easy to get lost on the forests trails. I remember signs saying not to walk alone through the Jungle. I went in November and there were a few porters and locals going through the jungle in the morning at the same time. But I also had a map and my GPS with Nepal topos.
What I don't get is why when he is on a tour the guides would have let him walk that far ahead out of eyesight.
