Consider the Milford Track. Completed the walk at Easter time in 2014 - stunning scenery. Went with Ultimate Hikes who cater for walkers of all ages and experience. Toughest day walking was the ascent and descent over Mackinnon Pass - all other days were relatively flat walking. Prepared for about six months prior starting with day walks during winter in Victoria (to also test out our wet weather gear) between 10 kms and 20kms.

A guided walk?

For a complete novice the Queen Charlotte Track would be ideal.
The Hump Ridge Track may also suit.

Cheers for the replies. Is the Milford track on par in difficulty as your standard west coast walk like the Copland for example?
