Wow this list includes some pretty unstable places, politically. I'm not sure I'd feel safe in Pakistan or Tajikistan. Kyrgyzstan seems to be the new hotspot, like Nepal before the Everest fever.

You can find off the beaten path places in the most popular countries too. In France, you can try the Queyras, where you'll only find Italians and French tourists, the islands off the coast of Brittany, French Guyana or New Caledonia. I'm sure there are islands near Scotland or Irelands that would feel out of this world too. You can also cheat by visiting a country off season. I've seen Norway in October, not many tourists in that time of year I can tell you...

Things have settled down in Tajikistan. It is a Persian speaking country with amazing mountain scenery. I must go there .Northern Pakistan once was a place that had none of the dramas that flat lands Pakistan has. Alas there have been some incidents in the Northern areas of Pakistan that have been unpleasant for trekkers and climbers.
Peak Lenin Base camp in Kirghizstan looks amazing!

I understand that you'll need to go with a tour group, no solo private foreign travellers these days.
