I'm assuming that you may have included a cryptic hint?

Descriptive only Greg, nothing cryptic. We really haven't gone far from the previous photo.

OK, I think those houses in the background look like they are on the N side of Bleakheath, so I'll have another stab and say Hat Hill.

Not Hat Hill Greg. I'm facing south-ish, Bleakheath is off to my right somewhere. Not too far away but across a big drop. That's a different town in the distance.

This was the apex of my walk (that clue is cryptic).

Hard to believe that no one has guessed this one.
This series of pointy lumps is just above a popular walking track, to my right, and not too far from the start.
The track is directly connected to the previous photo.

Walked past the Pinnacles many times but never found the time to scramble up for a look around which is probably why I didn't recognise those buildings in the background.
Still in NSW, where is this picture taken from?

Looks like Mt Hay in the distance. Maybe from somewhere on Fortress Ridge?

John, I used a lot of zoom to get this 'shot", so well past Fortress Ridge.

Might still be too close but I have a few un-zoomed shots from Flat Top with pretty much the same profile of Mt Hay.

Still too close John. The 'range' is about eleven kms from my spot to Mt Hay.

If I were to un-zoom (such a word?) the picture we would see the Pinnacles to the left of scene.

I'm out at present so no decent maps handy.
Thinking you would have to be north of the highway to see Mt Hay.
Not many named features come to mind not already mentioned.
What about one of those horrible blind crests on the Mt Hay Road?

A better look at the map hasn't helped much.
Blue Mountain might fit but is only 9 kms away.
To get 11 km away probably means somewhere like [EDIT] Linden Ridge.
But can you even see Mt Hay from there? I can't remember.

Did you get this shot from Leura rifle range which is 11km from Mt Hay ?

Well on target KeithJ, I did indeed take the shot from the southern (highway) side of the Leura rifle range. I suspect you have applied local knowledge. Over to you.

I saw Macalister Springs on the map but dismissed it as it didn't fit similar photos I found, or the captions led me astray
