Forumites, I'm very happy to award the thread to ribuck, if ribuck is happy to accept it ... unless there is interest or a question, about this image.

I'm not prepared to give away clues this time ... without someone showing interest or giving some feedback.

New South Wales calls itself the excitement state ... so where is the excitement?

Thanks Warren. I'd be happy to accept, except that I'm off within an hour for a few days walking. I'm looking forward to finding out the real names of those ranges when I return. And if the peaks are un-named, I might propose some names to rival Kanangra's Rip Rack Roar and Rumble.

Ribuck, although no doubt you have left by now, have a successful trip.

Hopefully ,someone might propose an answer ... or even better still, know the answer.

To keep things moving

A 'Google Image' search tells me that image has been posted on some other forums, in one of which d the series containing it is described as "From Georges Creek via George Creek Fire Trail up to the Cunnawarra Trail and the Styx River Travelling Stock Reserve, in New England".

Possibly someone with knowledge of that area can determine the actual ridges?

jonnosan, thank you Mate for keeping the thread going. Found on an off-road cycling forum? Not much cycling was done here, this is serious portage country. I was following the BNT's main trail ... rather than the alternate cycle route through New England.

A clue.

The rain that falls on the near side of the closest two ridges, flows into the Bellinger River ... while the rain that falls on the far side of the same two ridges, flows into the Macleay, given enough time. SIX Maps e-Topo would be a good place to look for the answer.

It is almost time for ribuck to return, so Forumites need to hurry.

Another clue.

The mountain below, is also in New England National Park. It has twin peaks. This mount has the same name as the rear Range, in the quiz photo. Again, SIX Maps e-Topo will help.

Another clue.

It was suggested that a new highway to the coast could be constructed along the ridge ... of the closest range in the quiz photo.

This is now the 8th day that this quiz hasn't be answered. The window to the week of last resort has nearly shut. ribuck, might only be mere hours away from returning ... hopefully (now, I wish I could insert a Smilie face with hands in a prayer position).

The last clue.

When the park was extended, later additions consisted mainly of areas South of the __________ aka ________ Range. This range is the closest two ridges in the quiz photograph.

Warren, for some reason the number of visitors to this thread has dropped right off. Maybe leave it for a few more days and then post an answer, with another easier picture, perhaps Jagungal or Ayers Rock. If that does not get a response, a pic of the Sydney Opera House with the name underneath may be necessary.

Lophophaps, you're probably right. Next time, Koscuszko, Royal or the Blue Mountains.

Now entering the 9th day. I'm staggered that this quiz hasn't been answered.

In two of the clues, I suggested that SIX Maps e-Topo would help.

If still playing, perhaps go to New England National Park and zoom in. How many ranges are named on e -Topo, 6 Ranges in total? With 4 of the Ranges predominantly in Cunnawarra National Park and only just touching New England National Park. Tellygram Range enters a short distance into New England NP from Cunnawarra NP, but it isn't one of them. That doesn't leave many Ranges in New England National Park on e-Topo. Perhaps only two Ranges and one of them has an aka dual name making it 3 Ranges.

OK, the clock starts now ... I'll be back in 10 minutes.

Tyreless, I thank you dearly for you faultless answer.

The Snowy aka Macleay Range are the front two ridges and the Comara Range are the two behind. Mount Comara is the clue with the twin peaks. The other clue about the proposal to run the highway to the coast, was on the Snowy aka Macleay Range.

Please take it away ... and I mean it.

I am killing time waiting for a flight on the way back from NZ. I haven't been there for some years but pretty sure this is the historic Circuit Flat bridge in Yengo NP.

Well Warren's New England puzzle was the gift that kept on giving, despite a plethora of clues. As promised, I will now supply alternative names for the peaks on the skyline.

Because the competition wasn't going anywhere for a few days, I've decided to name the minor peaks 'Fear', 'Loathing', 'Desperation' and 'Despondency'. The main peak on that skyline I will name 'Comara Randg', after the excellent typo by Tyreless. 'Comara' sounds Irish, and 'Randg' could be Welsh, and I love the idea of an Irish-Welsh peak within the New England National Park, within New South Wales.

As for the twin peaks, did you know that there is a Wikipedia entry for Breast-shaped hill? The only Australian hill listed on that page is Pigeon House Mountain, whose aboriginal name Didthul means "woman's breast". I hereby name this double-peak 'Titty Titty Bang Bang' and hope that this name will in due course be adopted by the Geographical Names Board and will also be added to the Wikipedia page.

Send them a proposal . Coincidentallly, I visited Grand Teton NP in Wyoming USA in 2014 and, while there seems to be some dispute about how that name originated, a popluar view is that French trappers named the three peaks now called South, Middle, and Grand Teton as “Les Trois Tetons,” or “The Three Breasts.” The Grand Teton (tallest) literally means “the big tit.”

Well, finally home and unpacked. Thanks Tyreless, considering the previous epic struggle to answer Warren's photo I'll try and keep the pressure off with this one. NSW, hopefully not too difficult:

Dear ribuck, I waited and waited ... but I could wait no longer. I needed to get on with the rest of my life. Also, I was fearing having to deal with hate mail, if those who had been overly tolerant here, lost it. So I took the easy way out, sorry.

Could this shot taken a while back show Rip, Rack, Roar and Rumble, leading up to Cloudmaker? ... http://wildwassa.deviantart.com/art/The ... -119885263

If it does it is a nice twist to finish what unexpectedly became an epic challenge ... and thank you for improving the names of several features in New England National Park. In about 4 weeks time I'll be returning to New England NP and hopefully I'll be able to pass the new names onto the Park Rangers. Maybe, I should leave my camera at home.

My very best wishes,

Warren.

Sorry ribuck, no. Albeit from this view/angle I can see how these can be mistaken for nearby Govetts Leap/Bridal Veil falls.
A side by side photo comparison reveals the differences.

Thank you John. I went to the Blue Mountains Winter Festival a couple of years ago and the following day I went for a walk on the Horseshoe Falls loop. There was no water coming over the falls when I was there. Your shot is good to see.

In NSW. Where is this rock formation in Kosciuszko National Park?

Time to start clues.

During summer more day walkers, pass these glacial erratics each day ... than will walk elsewhere in the park, during an entire week.
