I had ruled out Stack Bluff almost as soon as I said it - no vegetation up high. But left it in to see if it assisted.
After checking photos I notice that there is a good band of scrub up the gully towards Sphinx Bluff.
Is there a track/pad up that way?
Thu 22 Jul, 2010 12:39 pm
Yes indeed there is something that I would call a very good track, a SUPERPAD if you will
Is Sphinx your guess Eggs???
Thu 22 Jul, 2010 12:43 pm
Yes - I will guess it is Sphinx Bluff
Thu 22 Jul, 2010 12:45 pm
Close enough. It's on the track up to Southern Ben Lomond, Access to Sphinx, Pavement, the Knuckle etc etc, this cliff is JUST before the track stops at the plateau. It then ends and you can make your way to any of the above peaks in relatively nice easy open walking.
I call that track a very very good one, it is an old road for a while, then a pad up through the scrub/cliffs.

Tricky - yes, I was only thinking of the cliffline near the top, assuming the gully was the access route.

You'll have to think of some place you haven't been yet.....
Thu 22 Jul, 2010 1:20 pm
Hehe ok, just thought i'd try to get precise.
I'll leave this one for someone else then
Thu 22 Jul, 2010 1:36 pm
If I did that, I would be guessing on very few...
Hint - there are 3 named peaks in this picture
Thu 22 Jul, 2010 3:07 pm
Are the peaks named Little Horn, Cradle and Weindorfers?
Thu 22 Jul, 2010 3:56 pm
yes - you must know about where I am?

Can I clean up after Bap has done all the hard work? Does that break the rules? I think you're on the climb from Lake Hanson to Twisted Lakes.
Thu 22 Jul, 2010 5:42 pm
Go for it Tastrekker - I suspect Bap would have given the answer if he was angling for the next post.

Sorry for delay. Rumaging through pics now...

This isn't exactly a bushwalk destination but I love the fact that almost anywhere in Tassie you are only a short walk/drive from seeing nature at work in a spectacular way!

West Beach / Blackman Point - Burnie?
Being a southerner this is a bit of a guess.
Fri 23 Jul, 2010 10:36 am
Well done southerner! Yes, I'm standing on the West Beach boardwalk. It was a ripper surf!
Fri 23 Jul, 2010 11:08 am
Ah, as a keen surfer this makes me salivate TT

Hmmm ... "on the way there"

Maybe you're going "there" (?Achilles) via the west coast. So could it be Mt Murchison?
cheers
Peter
Fri 23 Jul, 2010 4:14 pm
No ... looked again, and reckon it's Mt Roland/Mt Claude area. I'd guess the latter.
Fri 23 Jul, 2010 4:16 pm
Not Roland Peter.
Those who have driven to Strathgordon will know this range - it's a great little tracked half day walk.
I have been up this one 4 times now, very nice SW range.
Fri 23 Jul, 2010 4:22 pm
Funny that! My first instinct was to say the Sentinel Range ... but I was thrown by what I took to be Liamy77's hint.
So .. sticking with my instinct ...
Fri 23 Jul, 2010 5:21 pm
I reckon stubowling knows it ... heaps of spots to explore from here!
used to go past here to get to my favorite dunny years ago..... Odd things we remember
