I think I know the answer to this but have no photos to post if I was correct. Are the initials P.L??

Micky B is being fairly precise. Point Lenana is the 3rd highest point on Mt Kenya and the popular trekking peak.
We had climbed up into the snow and ice to see the sunrise from the top.
Mt Kenya is almost precisely on the Equator.
Which means Killimanjaro is a fair way south.
Anyone can go next.

Might be - but from what I saw by way of web photos, it looks like you had good flow.

No lakes in this valley John. I am north from there.
We had passed over an old roman bridge on the way up though.

Thanks for playing John. I will give it to you for your efforts. This was the next one on - la Balme.
Thinking about it, we passed a higher than normal number of refuges on this day.

Thanks eggs, I'm not sure I deserve it. Unfortunately my first hand knowlege of France is limited to a few days in Paris and parts of the countryside many years ago. Poring over many maps and photos I had eventually found a similar image to yours, but in hindsight I'd say it was mis-labelled. At least I was getting closer . The Mont Blanc region looks an interesting place to walk and I like the convenient idea of staying in refuges.

Mrs and I have not long returned from a 2 1/2 week trip back into USA territory. Where are we here:

The weather is hot and sticky, I'm about to jump in and explore what's below. This is a State Historical Park and Marine Life Conservation District.

To narrow it down further, it is on the island of Hawaii (aka the Big island). This location has a relationship with Australian exploration; the white obelisk in the middle background is a clue.

From the clues I'd say it is Kealakekua Bay.

I visited Big Island a few years ago but didn't visit Kealakekua Bay (we stayed a bit further north). Fantastic snorkeling though.

Yes that's it Tyreless. The obelisk is the Captain James Cook monument in Kealakekua Bay. He met his demise there, pretty much at the left hand edge of the photo. We took a half day snorkelling trip by catamaran from Kailua-Kona area where we were staying. Yes, had a great time snorkelling. The variety of marine life was impressive.
