OK, 44 views no answers. Time for another hint.

The access is by cable car which rises the best part of a km and the cable car station is halfway ( or so) between the 2 main cities in this country.

This volcano erupted significantly a couple of years back.
I climbed up to this spot from walking among the steam vents along the crater plateau below.
I doubt that option is accessible to the general public any longer.
