Could be many places on the central plateau. How about on the way up Mt Jerusalem?
I can't remember if the burnt out pines beyond/behind the mountain were also close to the tarns there or not.

Yay... I thought it looked quite familiar and that was my first instinct... but I was not confident enough to avoid hedging my bets with "could be many places on the central plateau".
