Wow this is a popular thread! I just went out for half an hour.. Everyone wants the next picture :D

Nice one eggs.
Yeah its taken from Collins Bonnet. Great day walk you can do from the big bend on Mt Wellington.
Thats Trestle Mt in the foreground and the aptly named 'Snowy range' in the background, including Nevada peak, Snowy North, and part of Mt Field.

Good correction Nick
Its from the saddle below the Little Horn
I would not have allowed Weindorfers tower - how would I even get there?

This website is pretty flash - I am using a blackerry
But I will stop the ping pong and see how others fare

but over to Nick

Thanks Nick.
Since I didn't earn it, I will start (assuming I will one day be successful and first), with an easy one - and a good one.
Check it in larger size...
And if you can name all the peaks you get a bonus point.
The larger size is 6200 x 1040 pixels, which I downsized from the original of 21497 x 3681 pixels - a 15Mb JPG.
Too big fore here...
So, here it is.

Just to get in first it is from Pillenger Peak - was there on Saturday week b4 last! :D

Too many to list but Curate Bluff, Bishop Peak, Cathedral Mountain, Falling Mountain, Mount Massif, Walled Mountain, Macs Mountain, Mt Ossa, Thetis, Achilles all the Pelions right around to Oakleigh! (Gotta be worth half a point??)

Correct.
No bonus point though.
Your go. And I'm expecting something specky from you!

EDIT subsequent to your attempt at half a point, you get the full point with "too many to list", but I was hoping you'd at least included Hyperion, Paddys nut, twin spires, Barn Bluff, Cradle, Emmett (you need to squint at the large version to see that), and Campbell...
Many of the others I don't know off the top either. I'd love to repeat the exercise on a clear day and edit the big version to add text to them all.
Best way of learning them as you probably know is to go climb them all. How many you been to? I can count about 14...

tasadam,

I can see the Acropolis and Mt Murchison as well in your shot

sthughes has certainly upped the anti on this one.
It looks like granite, but I cannot picture this anywhere on the west coast or around Freycinet.
So that suggests somewhere in the North West or on Flinders Island ??
An area I am really not familiar with - though we went through to Bay of Fires last Jan.

Re: Game - "Where am I ?"

No agreement from me.
I'm struggling.
I look at the far right, and it looks like it could be the sea, and follow the plains to the left and it looks like the sea. But close examination of the left could also be a dam / lake that is way low of water - the hill in the distant left could be short of vegetation near the watermark. But that could be my eyes putting too much into this...
The hut and the road are just confusing.
It's clear from the direction of the sun that you are likely facing north. The hill being more bald on the left side adds weight to that (left being west, and the weather restricts growth on western slides - just look at the Ironbounds for example)
The roundish rocks look familiar, suggesting maybe east coast, which makes sense if it is the sea on the far right.

In short, no idea. Not even a guess.

Haven't been on any mountains in Flinders, but a google search of images matches the rock and bush type, so I'll go with Strezlecki looking north. That would explain the water on both sides.
But I know it's wrong because there are too many mountains in the far distance.

I know what you mean.
I thought of Strezlecki, but satellite view shows a lot of cleared land - not the forested stuff in the picture.

haha *edit* i 'think' this photo is taken looking north from Pillingers Peak on Flinders Island

Counsels peak is on the right, and Mt Leventhorpe is in the distance in the middle past that road.. but thats just a guess

I click on the image to open it in a new tab. Then I save the image to the hard disk and open it with Picture Manager and do a quick edit with brightness and contrast to see if I can pump a bit more detail.
Do you think it helps me? Nup
But a small crop of the section that could be a hut -

Don't know about a hut, could be that UFO that was over Ulverstone the other day, just resting Flinders on it's way to Vic to pester photographers

awesome.
Eggs, i figured it was Flinders because it looks like the east coast but not any place I've been.
i actually loaded up a map of flinders and translated the photo onto the most likely area on the map.. the road was a useful hint.

heres an easier one.

No, that's not right. It looks more like the lake beyond Grail Falls. Lake Chalice is it? Can't remember its name properly. But I can't place where you'd be standing - maybe on a ridge to the south, but I don't know its name.
