That's a tricky one...
Nothing recognisable to me.
Have to leave this one for someone that's been there I think.

But I don't mind guessing so...
Lots of tall poles with markers, fairly close together like this indicates to me that it is a track that needs to be picked up in some pretty bleak conditions - possibly with some significant snow, yet it is a track popular enough to warrant so many poles.
And the poles look like they have been there for a long time, being wood and all.
So possibly up on Ben Lomond somewhere or maybe somewhere near Mt Field east. I've been to Field west and it doesn't look familiar.
It's fairly flat, it's fairly high, hhmmm.
My GUESS is approaching Legges Tor. Never been there either.

I wonder if this "game" will stretch the sites resources?
Just looking back, it appears we have had 30 entries in basically 4 days with 15 different winners.
I don't know if there are stats on this, but it might be the quickest item to a 1000 visits - currently 1008!!

It looks like the West Coast, especially with those pylons in it, or possibly Lake Pedder area. Is that Mt Anne in the background? It's been too long since I was there.
Is it going up Mt Murchison?

Yes, you could say that.

If it's too tough, I could post another image or two - a view from the same place, different direction.
Thoughts?
3 people say Yes please and I will post.

No, further west than Cradle area as per previous comment.
I have to go to work soon so I will post other images here now to see if it helps. All taken from the same spot (or within a stone's throw of the same spot).

That might help.

tasadam

you are cruel.. :P
I did this walk so many years ago - a perfect sunny day & I had to wear a raincoat to prevent being drenched - with not a cloud in the sky.
Of course - for those who want to go there, I believe the track is closed to the public at the moment.

I wasn't going to have a go for a while - but this one is too great to miss.
I took my wife and an unfortunate friend on a long walk to camp on the lake in the photo - Basin Lake. We ended up somehow squashing down the button grass about halfway down the side of the moraine at 9pm at night. To get water I had to walk in the dark and after staggering through the bushes managed to find the lake underneath me - I had gone out on branches in the dark without realising it.
The mossies were huge (but not really interested in us).
The next day we saw some weather coming and decided to walk back out again - it was the hardest rain I have been in in Tas.
The mountains behind are Zeehan, Heemskirk & Agnew, and if I am correct, tasadam is on the old tramway track to Lake Margaret - near Queenstown.

I am so looking forward to when this track is reopened to the public. I am afraid the drenchings will be a thing of the past when it is reopened.
I reckon that the spur above this point could be used to make a round trip through the Tyndalls starting over Mt Sedgewick.

edit - the other 2 peaks he has shown are Mt Dundas & Giekie. I have managed to get up both of these. I must do Geikie again - amazing views out the other side. Even better than Tyndall. Mt Dundas is a lone peak - apart from the West Coast Range. It is a strange peak, but the track was neatly cut in those days. (I was working in the tin mine at Zeehan) The top section was like walking in a corridor - the cut leaving a neat wall of vegetation each side, but the top is a series of boulders with deep drops in between - but you had to be careful as they were filled with plants so it did not look like a hole!
I really will need to dig out my slides again.

Crumbs eggs... you've done a lot of walking in Tassie for somebody who doesn't live here... puts me to shame! I never would have guessed this one, but now that the cat's out of the bag, I think I know what you're talking about... getting drenched by showers when there's not a cloud in the sky. Yes, I believe that is in the process of being fixed, and access is currently unavailable.

Yep, close enough.
I'm actually on the dam wall for the original image -

We were there when they had two of the turbines shut down, so the back pressure in the pipeline was unusually high, hence a fantastic leaky display.

Really sorry about the weather we had that day. :D

Why it looks different now -

That will teach me - I didn't pick that you were on the dam wall. [How long ago was this?]
I should have thought about what angle you would have needed to get Basin lake and Zeehan/Heemskirk/Agnew in the one photo.

So because I have been a bit of a hog, someone feel free to post the next one.

Son of a beach - just a bit lucky on this one. I did do 2 months vac work out of Zeehan - being single with free weekends and long daylight hours after work - I got to see a fair bit of the West Coast. There are lots of Tassie I have never been to - Central Plateau, Wellington ranges, much of the south. But I have day dreamed a lot. It does seem though that a lot of Tasmanians don't seem to check the West Coast out..

Well, for us Taswegians who complain if we have to drive more than 15 minutes to get to work, the West Coast is a LOOOOOOOOONG way away for most of us. ;-)

When they open up access to Lake Margaret township again (its closed due to the renovations going on), it would be a good spot to visit.
It is an easy walk along a 4WD track up to the moraine over Basin Lake - and from there along the moraine ridge up to Geikie is very straightforward.
If you can handle the look of a hydro lake, then Lake Margaret itself is a nice spot. The mountains surrounding it are quite attractive, and like I wrote before, the ridge on the side of the tramway track is good for getting up onto the skyline running all the way around to Sedgewick.

tasadam - I still don't get the SUN clue?

Son of a Beach - I was a bit frustrated to get of the boat in Devonport and take 5 hours to get to Scotts Peak!! But I blame my compnions for that!.
Still I am hoping to take a trip to our local Flinders Ranges soon - will only take 8 hours to get to our starting point...

These messages do cross over I was going to suggest Son of a Beach or Devon Annie could put up the next one

eggs wrote:tasadam - I still don't get the SUN clue?

There was no SUN clue.
The DAY clue was that it was from a day walk, not an overnighter.
The pylons were the only thing hiding in the photo, so power was a bit of a cryptic clue.
Plus the looking different now, it is fairly well known down here that they are building a new pipeline at the moment, and the pipeline of course being a real feature of the walk.
I was tempted to mention a SUN clue in that not many people get to see this place with blue sky, but that would have given it away. :P
