Not in the Hartz NP
Wed 07 Nov, 2018 3:43 pm
Tarn Shelf, maybe Lake Newdegate
Wed 07 Nov, 2018 8:39 pm
It is Tarn Shelf - but not Newdegate.
Wed 07 Nov, 2018 9:17 pm
Johnston Tarn?
Wed 07 Nov, 2018 9:50 pm
Yes - this is Johnston Tarn

Rock type looks like quartzite, peak under the moon looks like Adamsons. Eastern Arthurs?
Thu 08 Nov, 2018 1:54 pm
That's the range. I am looking for something more specific
Thu 08 Nov, 2018 3:32 pm
Very overcast when we were there - but the near cliff line matches the outlook from Hanging Lake camp site.
Thu 08 Nov, 2018 6:48 pm
That's the one Eggs - taken from one of the tent platforms at Hanging Lake. This was a moon rising. Moments before it was almost blood red.

I suspect the mountains at back are Hartz & Snowy

Geeves Bluff?
Thu 08 Nov, 2018 9:43 pm
Correct.
An easy peak with marvellous views.

It sure is! You do earn it by getting to Hanging Lake in the first place, though.

Hmm. Maybe these tarns aren't as distinctive as I thought. Does that matter, guys?

7 people so far haven't worked out the cryptic clue in the last post. A bit Pretty obscure, but I thought it might help somebody.

Menamatta on Ben Lomond? Some brilliant camping up there.

Ah, the
really obscure cryptic clue writer got it, no trouble!
It is gorgeous there - in good weather, of course. Spectacular area when the scoparia is in flower, as it was when we visited. Probably wouldn't have got around to going if I wasn't collecting peaks.
Fri 09 Nov, 2018 10:28 am
Wasn't
scoparia season when I was there, but I did get one of the most spectacular sunsets ever, due to some nice stormclouds.
Thanks for putting up an easy one. Not that I'm likely to return the favour...

Except it is. ILUV posted a very similar one on 09/10
Edit: Oops, actually SBS's post on 09/10. Thanks Gayet for pointing out my idiocy.

Would you like a replacement? I can do that.
Fri 09 Nov, 2018 11:31 am
If you like NNW. Apologies to SBS.
Fri 09 Nov, 2018 1:04 pm
OK, now, how about the new shot? I can guarantee it's not D'Arcy Bluff or Wentworth Hills.
Fri 09 Nov, 2018 1:09 pm
it certainly isn't
Fri 09 Nov, 2018 7:50 pm
Is it Tor?
Sat 10 Nov, 2018 8:11 am
Definitely not Tor. In fact, DArcy/Wentworth is closer.
Sat 10 Nov, 2018 8:14 am
You surely didn't make it easy, nnw!!
A few rapid-fire random guesses to narrow it down may be the way, in the absence of even obscure cryptic clues. Unless there was a really obscure one I missed.
Mt Field West, which it isn't. But is it closer?
Sat 10 Nov, 2018 10:27 am
Somewhere on the King Willies? Maybe near King Willie 2?

A lot closer. In fact, I was there later this same day. By which time the fog had lifted.
