Valentines Peak?
Wed 19 Aug, 2020 7:20 pm
Right part of the state, but not St Valentines.

Pretty sure we're looking at Mt Tor from the vaguely west-ish. Trying to figure out what other options there are for the vegetation in the foreground. Pearse??

It's too flat and wrong vegetation for Pearse (far as I recall). Looks more like Cripps except the rock ... I was thinking it looks more like Black Bluff Range from westish ... all of which means that Torty is most likely right ...

It's been a long time since I was on Pearce, but I agree with your recollection. Hence the question marks. I forgot about Cripps, but would have thought that's too far south. Mind you, I usually get my angles wrong.

on the way to Beecroft?

No one has landed on the correct mountain yet. St Valentines is still the closest guess.

are you on Tor?

Yes that's the place, not far from the top. Black Bluff is the mountain in picture.

I'll take it but wasn't Tortoise technically correct since you can see Mt Tor in the foreground? Next

I took her comment to mean that the mountain in the background was Mt Tor, as she said looking at Mt Tor.

You're right, L, I didn't get it. Remarkable how similar Tor and Black Bluff's profiles are from that direction, comparing my photos.

Correct Tortoise, Byron Gap (reprise).

Yes, but you weren't specific.

La Perouse. I see the infamous drooping tip of Leillateah behind that lovely open moraine.

Indeedy. Have you met Leillateah personally yet? Not sure if I want to...

That's on the "when I'm feeling particularly masochistic" list. Possibly also the "it's been too long since I had a chopper ride" list.

Anne from Deception Ridge?
Fri 21 Aug, 2020 8:16 am
Close, but there's a more specific name for what I'm on.

The Druids?

Wrong bump. But you couldn't be closer without being right.

I guess it is Celtic Hill then? (the only other named bump I can see there)
Fri 21 Aug, 2020 6:44 pm
That's the one. Neat little walk even easier at the moment, thanks to the fires.

Given the current conditions and forecasts around the place, even up here, this might be appropriate:
- Looking towards Liffey Bluff from near the Projection Bluff track head, Central Plateau Protected Area via Deloraine

Hmmmm Hartz mountains? With that ridge being Devils Backbone?

Not Hartz/Devils Backbone, different part of the state. The start of a popular short uphill track is just behind me.

Somewhere around the Highland lakes road? With that short uphill track you mention being Projection Bluff?

That's it Lucas, pretty much next to the Projection Bluff track sign looking towards Liffey Bluff.
I abandoned the walk on arrival as I hadn't been up there and couldn't work out where the track went in deep snow.
The conditions took me by surprise but eventually I did climb up there some years later.
