October Competition: Post Something Useful to WIN!

Postby Son of a Beach » Fri 01 Oct, 2010 9:26 am

If you are a "lurker", now is a great time to consider becoming an active member on http://bushwalk.com. We have a series of competitions planned for the next few months. These competitions are free and easy to enter.

The first begins today...

October Competition: Post Something Useful for a Chance to WIN 2 Great eBooks

To enter this competition, all you have to do is submit a 'useful post' to a forum in either of the 'Local Track' or 'Main Track' categories on http://bushwalk.com or http://bushwalk.com during the month of October. Couldn't be easier! You will go in the draw to win 2 fantastic eBooks from Frank Wall's 'Our Hiking Blog':
  • Food to Go - everything you could possibly want to know about eating well on a bushwalk, from purchasing and preparation to cooking and consumption.
  • Hiking The Overland Track - a comprehensive guide for preparing for the Overland Track covering transport, accommodation, equipment and a wide variety of other planning issues.

For the purpose of this competition, 'useful posts' means posts that either contain information that is useful to bushwalkers, or a serious question that generates discussion containing useful information for bushwalkers.

The winner will be decided by a database script which will select random posts submitted during October in any of the eligible forums, until a 'useful' post is found (as determined by the forum moderation team).

WIN these great prizes:

Please note that this competition is now closed. The SQL has been run over the database to select a random winner. The results are just being confirmed with the moderation team to make sure we all agree that it is a "meaningful post" according to the rules of the competition. The winner of the best bushwalking food book on the market will be announced very soon.

The winner is: davids

Congratulations, David. You've won the fabulous Food to Go eBook, by Frank Wall, along with the Overland Track eBook also.

Thanks very much to Frank for donating these prizes.

For those people who are unfamiliar with Frank's work, you should firstly check out his Hiking Blog which is frequently updated with very useful information for bushwalkers, as well as entertaining stories and track reports.

More recently he has been producing books for bushwalkers, and they are very useful and very polished publications. In particular, I've found that Food to Go has been the primary influence in my recent dramatic improvement in bushwalking menus. If you have any misgivings about your recent bushwalking food at all (either the taste, the nutrition or the weight of it) I highly recommend you check out Food to Go.

Sure, that's a fair enough request. The post was chosen at random yesterday (using a database query I composed and tested a couple of weeks ago). The winning post was fairly short, but it does contain enough useful information to fit within the competition's definition of a "useful post".
