Yes - this is the ABC range near Bunyeroo Gorge looking across to the Heysen Range with Mt Hayward in the distance [and Patawarta Hill a tiny bump way off]

Thanks eggs. It was indeed that tiny bump of Patawarta on the horizon that got me oriented.

Here's another one from SA. Having learnt a good lesson after my previous post, I've chosen what ought to be an easy one this time. Name the central peak.

Mt Abrupt (860m), Heysen Range, near Bunyeroo Gorge

This will be the smaller Mt Abrupt, which juts up noticeably at the start the Heysen Range as it heads north from Wilpena Pound [in which are Pompey Pillar and St Marys Peak]

Correct in both respects, eggs. And when I surmised that this would be easy to pick is that I know you previously posted a wider shot which included Mt Abrupt. But perhaps there are few South Australians or interstate visitors to South Australia who participate in this game?

Yes - I think SA is pretty hard - but we have some lovely wild places.

Better try Vic again

I've confused these two before. Looking at Signal Peak from Mt Abrupt.

Yes - from Sturgeon - one I had not climbed before this year.

The only one I've climbed is Abrupt, long ago.

Next one is back in SA. What is the name of this gorge?

Urrrgggh, I'd have to dig out the maps to check the name, but that looks like where Wonoka Creek has the big right angle bend north of Mayo hut.

eta: Which would be Mayo Gorge, of course, though I'm probably wrong.

No, you are certainly correct. (Though why it's called a gorge is curious.)

It's rather embarrassing that I can recognise that, but not places in Tassie that I've been to a dozen times.

Staying in SOz; name the range in view. Bonus for where I am:

I don't recognise any of the fascinating details, but it reminds me of the section of the Heysen Trail alongside the Red Range.

That will do. Looking at the Elder Range from the Red Range, a little above the track.

SA once more, but slightly more arid, so no green northern cypress pines here. Name the sprawling range encompassing this area.

That is, not the distant horizon, but the nearby hills, including the point where the photograph was taken.

It looks so much like the track up to Bridle Gap, but I'm sure it isn't. But I know that low ridge that track passes through ... you aren't up near Mt Arden, are you?

After thinking that it looks Gammonish or Arkaroola way, the clue tells me to look in the Bunkers.
The foreground track was what was not jelling with me till that clue, but I actually have the same shot taken from the high point on the southern track into Wilkawillina Gorge - The Bunkers.
If the background wasn't a bit washed out you would actually see Mt Chambers on the horizon.

You've got it, eggs. I did think that foot track was an important clue. After all, how many such tracks exist in the less visited sections of Ikara or Vulkathunha? Hardly any. Of course, off-track navigation is usually not too difficult, but sometimes a track is useful for part at least of a long walk.
