Getting colder, although I did think about going up Mueller as I passed it. I'm at the small summit cairn of another named mountain.
And here is the photo again as we've drifted onto a new page:

Townsend was my first thought, but maybe Alice Rawson?

Alice Rawson is correct Mic. Looking over the western fall of the main range.
And I had it all to myself, unlike Townsend which seemed to have been taken over by the Instagram crowd :(

Looks like it was shot from Spencer’s creek with Mt Tate dominating the skyline on the right hand side of the frame.

To be fair, the summit of Twynam isn’t really in the pic, unless there is some unusual perspective thing happening. From right to left I see Tate, Anderson and Anton, with just a bit of Twynam coming up at the very left.

Anyway, moving on...

Apologies. I think you are correct. My maps are still in moving boxes in the garage, and I'm only going off my memory (and heaven knows that's always shakey at best :-D)

My first thought was that you were flying past an oil slick, but on enlarging the photo I could see that it was an island.

Crikey there are a lot of offshore islands in South Australia, and I can't match the shape of this one to any of them. So I'm going to stick my neck out and guess that you are flying over Lake Alexandrina, because it doesn't look salty enough to be an inland lake, even after rain.

I'm properly impressed Ribuck: you can tell the saltiness of water from five thousand feet!!!

NNW has it. Also known as Lake Eyre on one of those occasions when it filled.

Not the saltiness of the water, GregG, but the saltiness of the shore. This photo, for example, looks like a salt lake to me. But I was wrong, so clearly I need to train my salt lake detection neurons :)

At the Adelaide Oval. This is an extreme close up of the footmarks made on the pitch by the bowlers, taken after a cricket match in 1961.

Thank you. It reminds me to never wear shoes or boots with spikes on a bushwalk.

I should have picked one with some colour still in it, but from this location that would have been a major giveaway
