Wherever it is, I'm pretty sure I've been there. So maybe not quite in the Jamison as such, I'll try Chinamans Gully on Mt Solitary.

From the photo, it looks like a well-used camping overhang, which narrows it down somewhat.

The most well-used caves near the Jamison Valley were on Mt Solitary, but those have been blocked off for a few years now and your photo doesn't look very old.

So maybe on Narrowneck? I don't think the Cave near Taros Ladder gets that much use. I have a photo of Upper Psyn Cave, which looks a bit similar but not similar enough.

So I'm going to guess that it's Lower Psyn Cave, at the bottom of the escarpment a few hundred metres east of the Devils Hole track. That would match your clue about "same geological layer as Coal Seam Cave".

So I'm assuming Blue Mountains NP. Could be one of many slot canyons in that area I haven't visited.
Let's open the bidding with somewhere in the Bungleboori/Dumbano Creek system.

Yes it is within that system. Let's give it a day or two to see if anyone can suggest something more specific, otherwise it's yours.

I reckon it's yours, johnw.

This is Dumbano Tunnels, a very pretty walk-through canyon at the top of Dumbano Creek. It's only a hundred metres long, including a side-canyon that leads to an attractive ferny cave.

There is a fair amount of zoom here. I'm heading towards a well known building and beyond.
But I had wandered off the usual route due to some trackwork confusion and noticed this in the near distance.
I'm interested to know what it is, should anyone know.

I dont recall seeing the building and dont know what it is, but am getting a very strong sense of it being somewhere on the snowy river, will have a stab as it being the spencer creek confluence, i.e. just upstream of illawong hut.

Almost jonnosan. I'll pay it anyway as it's relatively close and you have the correct river.
I'm actually just downstream of Illawong Hut, so not the Spencer Creek confluence (my next point of interest that day).
Still open to any input on that structure. I wondered if it's related to the Guthega Dam further downstream.

No idea John - but it appears to be at the high water mark for the Guthega Pondage. Would have to be Snowy scheme related.

Thanks eggs. Yes I thought likely Snowy scheme related (or possibly weather?). I have at least one book about that development, I'll trawl through it for any clues.

Repeating for clarity, it's jonnosan's turn.

This is a flow measuring station, and part of the infrastructure used to convert river height into flow.

The hut is used to store the machinery and electronics.
The flying fox is used to put flow sensors into the river at set points to try and estimate the actual flow per second for that river level.
The table of flow rate vs river level is used to interpolate the flow for other river levels.

It sure is, Jonnosan.

The photo is from the 1980s. We looked at the erosion around the tree roots, and wondered how we would exit the Wallangambe after the tree fell. Forty years later, the tree is still holding on.

Well, that''s a snow gauge. There are also some of those tall, weirdly banded poles that Snowy Hydro used for whatever and I don't remember seeing them near any of the snow gauges I've seen. It looks too open to be the one at the start of the 15 Mile, anyway, and I can't recall exactly where else I've bumped into them.
