Public hearings about coal mining in Ben Bullen State Forest

Postby christophermoore » Thu 16 Aug, 2012 4:25 pm

Hi all,

Not sure if many forum members live out in these parts, but there will be a couple of public meetings happening in about a month. They're going to be addressing the Coalpac Consolidation Project, which is a proposal to extend the Cullen Valley and Invincible coal mines into the Ben Bullen State Forest.

This proposal for longwall and open-cut mining threatens some excellent bushwalking country. It's going to put a scar on the landscape, and topple pagodas from undermining. The Blue Mountains Conservation Society has some more information on their website.

The details of the meetings are:

9am Wednesday 19th Sept, Lithgow and District Workmen's Club
12pm Thursday 20th Sept, Cullen Bullen Progress Association Hall

Anyone is welcome to attend, but those wishing to speak need to register by contacting [email protected]

If you're able to make it, I'll see you at the Lithgow meeting.

Cheers,
Chris
