Re: Yuraygir Coastal Walk

For those who have done this walk without using the accomodating facilities located in the towns found along the track, are there any areas sand free and not too far from the beach. My plan is to camp on the following locations:

1. Brooms Head
2. Minnie Waters
3. Wooli

Cheers!

I camped at Boorkoom. From memory, there is a toilet block. Sand free. 2 minutes from the beach. On the trail. Very crowded on weekends, so you won't feel lonely.

Thanks. Very happy to pitch the tent on the red dirt or the grassy area right behind. Lovely and with an other-worldly view! :)

About the Wooli Wooli river crossing, if you get a good low tide no need to swim at all:

I’m planning on walking Yamba southwards next week. Can someone tell me the best place to cross the Corindi at Red Rock because I am having difficulty getting hold of the person who does the boat crossing and I’ve read that this crossing is quite feasible without a boat. Thanks in advance. I’m ok with boats for the other crossings.

I crossed Corindi Creek a couple of weeks ago at lowish tide. Right at the very entrance, I was able to walk across to a little beach, with my pack held over my head. Otherwise, you can swim across easily enough a bit further inland, if the tide, currents or waves are a problem. Didn't see anyone on boats.

I'd take some $20 notes with you, to wave down boat owners, just in case. Not all the river crossing services are reliable.

There hasn't been a boat service at Corindi River for some years. You can cross at low tide adjacent to the boat ramp. Just needs a short swim. You may find a friendly local to take your pack across. Endorse the suggestion about having some cash handy.

Thanks.
I was able to walk across at the entrance, chest deep for short while. Pack got wet but all my gear was in dry bags inside so no problems there. The boats at Sandon and Wooli were fine. I continued down the beaches to Nambucca Heads (slight detour inland Mylestom to Urunga) and it was a great walk.
