What have you seen in flood this weekend?

I just got back from the Cascades in Garigal NP, Sydney. The area was flooded in a spectacular way http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GedY3dGHqU

Was also up in Wentworth Falls and Blackheath on Saturday, most walking tracks were better described as soft canyons.

I'm curious to know what things people on this forum may have done\seen. Anyone use the Colo's 16m flood for an express lilo?

Anyone use the Colo's 16m flood for an express lilo?
It's been done. We visited Canoe Creek when the Colo was up 10 m a few years ago. And behold: some guys turned up with some sort of inflatable, which they launched. Colo-Meroo in a few hours.

Actually, when the Colo is in flood, all you have to do is to dodge the banks and the odd floating tree. You won't even notice the rapids!

I wish I had the stones to try that, sounds amazing. I would have thought the King Rapid would still be dangerous, I guess 10 meters is a lot!

I've always had this bizzare dream of floating down the entire MacDonald river when it's in flood. One day perhaps!

Actually the if you are rafting the Colo River at 16m, you will notice the bridge at Colo, you may hit it. Also the Bridge to Nowhere would be very apparent, as you pass under it on your way out to sea:

We tried to find the height of the Colo Bridge, where it crosses on the Putty Road, and decided that the only way to find out was drive there and check it out. The Colo River was lapping at the bridge at the time of the high tide and the force of the water pushed the bitumen up on the northern approach to the bridge. The bridge was later closed for a while until the RMS were able to assess it. It was very impressive seeing that much water flowing down the river!

Camped at Crosslands a week ago (1st weekend in March), got talking to a guy from the Crusaders Camp across Berowra creek, who said the weekend of the big wet the whole grassed area of Crosslands Reserve was a lake. Their swimming pool was inundated, and the following day full of bream and mullet. He was rescuing stuff from his house, a big Toyota diesel 4wd had water over the bonnet driving around camp. Sounded epic!

Do you have any idea what it's like to get to the fancy big new bridge over Spring River from the east/south when the water levels are up? Frankly, you don't want to.
