Bit left field for this forum but I figured I'd give it a shot.
I'm planning a trip to explore some of the western part of NSW. Planning to go to Mungo NP and possibly Kinchega NP.
Does anyone know of any day walks or places worth a detour to see in that area?
Cheers.

Consider visiting Mutawintji np north of Kinchega. There are some good walks there and also some restrictions on access so you need to read up before you go. I am planning a similar trip but going up to Cameron's Corner, then down through the Flinders Ranges, Mutawinji, Kinchega, Mungo and home for September.

Kinchega is beautiful. No big mountains or anything, but very much worth an explore.

Maybe a canoe on Lake Canwdilla or down the Darling would be an option.

When I was there I came across old aboriginal camp sites out in middle of the scrub. amazing stuff.

You can just walk wherever you want, as the scrub is very light.

Being close to water every day or so means you will have to be near the lake or river one way or another.
