Has anyone been out for a look?

I'd be interested in what it looked like out there after the fires.

Gingra Range, Ti Willa Plateau were badly affected - a bit of a moonscape. Track on Ti Willa and first bit up towards Cloudmaker has disappeared.
From 4th Top onwards the weeds came back with a vengance.
A few of the more remote tracks are obstacle courses with lots of fallen trees & trip hazards.

Cottage Rock is a bit more visible than usual.

Kowmung at Gingra Creek confluence - weeds visible at right.

Ridges between Krafts Wall & Cloudmaker have mostly recovered.

Kanangra to Katoomba trail has many fallen boughs making it slower than usual.

I made it down with a group of 8, via Roots Ridge. Yes heavily overgrown in parts (literally in over our heads in weeds lol) and challenging but also immensely beautiful (pink flannies on the plateau, the river). It took us 8 hours each way. My account and many photos over here: https://thebigbushbasher.com/2021/02/22 ... ness-area/

Great trip report and beautiful photos,
Noticed the ‘ad hoc’ camping area complete with stone fire ring and just hoping it was removed and rehabilitated when you left (Leave No Trace), it’s sad to see fire rings and campfire scars in our wilderness areas.
Hoping to get back out there soon - snd see the Kowmung full again! Thanks for the report!

Plastic tape along the top part of Roots Ridge - who does this in a wilderness area? For me these aren’t tracks to be signed, just wild ridges any of which we might navigate ourselves down. We’re so fortunate having wild areas without signposted ‘tracks’, not to mention the unsightliness of fluoro plastic tape in the trees...I’ll continue to untie and bring the stuff out...that’s my gripe for the day/year..

Onya bushgirl!

Plastic tape is awful..it's vandalism and littering..

and on ridges completely unnecessary (I'd argue it's always unnecessary on any terrain).

Dont get me started on the people who use paint!!

Indeed, our group lives by the Leave No Trace code!! Though have to say, seeing pink tape was a relief at times given how tough the bush bashing was in places.
