Dunphy et al. Sketch Maps

Postby stigofthedump » Thu 07 Jan, 2021 12:04 pm

I am stuck in somewhat of a rabbit hole getting deeper and deeper into the Dunphy and Ford sketch maps. Been spending alot of time cross referencing modern topos, trip reports and the sketch maps and getting slightly obsessed.

I see that Colong Wilderness Foundation previously had a number of sketch maps on their website but the gallery seems to be down. I was additionally hoping to buy hard copies from them so have contacted them directly.

In the interim does anyone have links or can upload the digital copies that were formally on the gallery, as well as any other interesting sketch map scans? I've had trouble even finding the more common Gangerang/Wild Dog and Kowmung sheets and have been mainly perusing the Ford sketches.

Thanks!

I find the topos more reliable.
The sketch maps have some historical info: names of passes etc.

Cheers

Absolutely. I'd hope they would be. The hand sketches have alot of marking and naming that doesn't appear on the topos. The sketch maps correlate with older trip reports and referencing that I'm interested in. I wouldn't be navigating solely from them.

Have you had a look on https://trove.nla.gov.au/ ?

I often find old parish maps, sketch maps, and more modern maps on there for up here in the alps.

Hopefully Colong come through with the goods!
