Alternative route down to Gerringong Falls (no slot)

Hi all,

Just like to report that it's possible to walk down to the base of Gerringong Falls via the southern side of the gully just south of the slot. This allows you to reach the base of the falls without any height exposure. After you enter the gully aim for the base of the cliffs and follow the cliff line as closely as possible until you intersect with the 'official' track just below the slot. Counter-intuitively you want to walk uphill following the base of the cliffs somewhat, as further down there is a mess of vines and ferns. It's a bit of a scrub bash either way.

If you are comfortable with a bit of scrambling, it's SIGNIFICANTLY easier and faster to just enter\exit via the slot. Gully is just an alternative for those who don't mind some off-track walking but don't like height exposure - or potentially as an alternative exit if one has an injury or whatever.

There is evidence of RFS\SES activity down there, some tape etc, plus hints of a faint foot-pad at points (not really followable though), so I think this is appropriate to post as it's not *that* off-track. But let me know if it's not.

Cheers

Richard
