Hi Team!
Sorry if this question has been asked many times before.
I live in the Lake Macquarie area and run/hike the GNW quite regularly.
Recently I have noticed a few of my local areas need some decent track maintenance, mostly mowing related as well as a lot of leaf litter building etc. It seems to me to be getting to a point it would be easier to burn some sections off rather than mow! And that also concerns me if an uncontrolled fire was to happen also.
I was wondering if anyone had some contact details of who I ask the question of as to when/how some of this track maintenance will be getting done?
I've found the general phone number for National Parks, do I just call them and get a conversation rolling?
The areas of particular interest to me currently are:
- Heaton Gap; grass and weeds growing very tall on the main track from the "Creepy Servo" to the top of the stair.
- Heaton Jungle; between Heaton Lookout and Macleans Lookout. So much leaf litter and sections getting overgrown.
- The Ridge between Heaton Gap and Wakefield RFS. The grass either side of the track is getting knee-high, the highest I've seen it in a long time. Also lots of leaf litter.
Any numbers, emails, whatever to ask these questions would be great thanks!

Hi, the GNW is managed by the NSW Department of Planning & Environment - maybe try contacting them?
https://www.industry.nsw.gov.au/lands/a ... tional-useI've never seen any signs of maintenance being done unfortunately, it's badly needed in many areas between Hornsby and Brooklyn.
Edit: took a picture of one of the GNW wayfinding posts, this may also help.

The Lands Department originally planned the walk, but the work was done by NPWS and local councils iirc. So maybe contact Lake Macquarie Council and/or the local NPWS office.

Before the Lands Department got involved, the initial work and obtaining funding was done by Garry McDougall & Leigh Shearer-Heriot
