KNP - Snakey Plain FT and Farm Ridge FT

Postby glenpandrews » Tue 25 Oct, 2022 8:43 pm

Howdy Folks,

KNP hiking season is near upon us... getting excited!

Has anyone travelled the Snakey Plan Fire Trail from Tooma Road west of Tooma Reservoir down to Wheelers Hut last year? Could you please let me know whether the condition is Good, Bad or Ugly?

Also, back in 2017 my wife and I travelled the Farm Ridge FT from Round Mountain to O'Keefes Hut. The condition was OK, with a little bit of overgrown vegetation, but a good walk by anyones reckoning. Does anyone know if the condition has become worse / better in the last 6 years after fires etc?

Thanks Folks, much appreciated.

Glen

Walked to Wheelers back in June 2021 and the Snakey Plain Fire Trail was good. It had snowed so there was a bit of snow and a bit wet under foot in places but not in anyway overgrown

Thanks mate, that's really helpful. I am sure not much has changed since then.
I also read a report on Farm Ridge FT from 2019, kind of during bushfire period, and it was OK then. Post bushfire, may have changed. But Snakey Plain being in good nick is hopefully indicative.
Thanks again!

I second Crollsurfs comment re Sankey Plain. All good.

Farm Ridge is fine. I last went along it in March this year and it was clear the whole way. Just up from the Tumut there was a pipe bridge of sorts which was destroyed by the fires. Not an issue to cross but worth mentioning.
