Your favourite 2-3 day hike in Northern NSW

Postby Szlarti » Tue 02 May, 2023 5:37 am

Hi team, I am looking for suggestions of hikes in the area of 2-3 days, to take 3 adults with decent fitness and experieince, on. Could be tracks with cabins or no facilities. Cheers

Tracks with cabins. Not likely.
Cabins aren't encouraged in this climate as they are not considered necessary.
It presents maintenance and waste disposal issues.
The removal of the hut on Mt.Barney in 1975(i think) , near the Qld/Nsw border is a good example of that.
As for 2-3 day walks. Well, It's unlimited. However, if you're looking for established walks, with a name and signage and maybe facilities of some kind, you're probably going to be within the coastal or immediate hinterland area and they will not be too well known outside of that area.
Can you be more specific with the area you have in mind.
Northern NSW extends for hundreds of kilometres inland.
My preference for walks in NSW would lie in the hinterland or more so as far as Tenterfield. ie the northern rivers headwaters. Places such as Cataract river, Bookookoorara Ck, Boonoo Boonoo
Ever on the search for a one ended stick.

Thanks Aardvark...I put cabins in because I know there are hikes (such as Green Gully Track) that have them, and did not want people to omit on that basis. Preference would be not cabins!
As for distance...anything within 4 hours drive of Lismore

I can suggest these walks:
- New England Wilderness Walk (3 days) or an overnight walk (avoiding the big car shuffle). New England NP Wilderness, no facilities, no bookings required.
- World Heritage Walk (3-4 days), Washpool and Gibraltar Ranges NP, camp, some facilities
- Yuraygir Coastal Walk (4 days), can stay in villages or camp
- Solitary Islands Coastal Walk (4 days), many facilities and options
- Guy Fawkes River Wilderness Walk (2-3 days) no facilities
- Green Gully Track, bookings required, pricey and popular, huts
- sections of the National Trail eg Macleay River and Kunderang Brook

plus many others !
