Dunphys to Mt Jenolan, return

Postby msmithers » Wed 14 Jun, 2023 8:46 am

I'm thinking of an overnight at Mt Jenolan, starting from and returning to Dunphys Campground.

Route would be down Carlon Creek Track, Breakfast Creek to Cox River, cross the river and up Scrubbers Hump, follow the ridge south to Mt Jenolan, camp overnight then down Gasper Buttress, cross the Cox River, follow the river north to Breakfast Creek then Carlon Creek. I've read ascending Scrubbers Hump can be a challenge and that there might be a "best" spot.

Has anyone done this tracks recently? Is overgrowth as bad as near Mobbs Swamp? Any advice/tips?

Thanks,
Michael

I did similar route 5 years ago, so pre fire. I ascended at the saddle a few hundred metres south of spot point 582 on scrubbers hump, from memory it was step enough at the start that I was using my hands a fair bit, then really opened up on top. I expect the easiest ascent (baring regrowth) would be from Wallaroo point which I have not yet had the pleasure of doing.

Thanks. BTW, what does "spot point 582" mean?

The 582 spot height of Scrubbers Hump as marked on the Topographic Map.
