Search and rescue for 20-year-old woman - Blue Mountains

Postby FatCanyoner » Fri 09 Dec, 2011 6:18 pm

Hey folks,
From NSW Police a short time ago:

Retrieval operation for bushwalker underway - Mt Victoria
Friday, 09 December 2011 06:43:38 PM
Police are conducting a search and rescue operation for a bushwalker in the Blue Mountains this afternoon
The 20-year-old woman set out on Wednesday 7 December 2011 for a 48 hour hike and was due to return today (Friday 9 December 2011).
About 4pm today, she had reached a point near Balitzer Lookout at Mount Victoria when she has slipped and fallen onto a ledge below.
The woman used her mobile phone to contact emergency services.
The Police Rescue Squad unit, based at the Blue Mountains has responded and trekked into the bush.
Once the rescue parties reach the woman, a decision will be made on how she will be extricated.

I just spoke to Police and they are still trying to locate her. Details are pretty sketchy on how far she fell and injuries. At least the weather was a bit better today than the last week!!!

A pretty good service they have available up there...
Police said the woman was not carrying an emergency beacon, saying it was a timely reminder that the potentially life-saving devices can be borrowed free of charge from Police and NPWS officer in the area.

Why wouldn't you use it?

Glad it ended well.
