Goldfields track

Postby dinna89 » Sun 22 Nov, 2015 9:03 pm

I'm thinking of bicycling the Goldfields track someone soon, does anyone know how many days it would take to do the ride?

Also, does anyone have a recommendation of where I could hire mountain bikes from? Anywhere in Melbourne, Bendigo or Ballarat would be fine. Panniers and such would be useful but I could just cycle with my pack.

I'm a roadie rather than a MTBer, but I would have thought that 50 km a day was a pretty gentle pace, 75 km/day more usual, and 100 km/day more ambitious.

It is indeed hot and dry on the Goldfields track at this time of year, but the greater range of a MTB should have you passing reliable water a couple of times per day, especially in towns along the way.
