Wondering if anyone can ID this plant I saw last Friday in the Otways. Is it an orchid

or is it one of those dreadful exotics

( Lots of other exotics including blackberries and lots of stinging nettles.

Basal leaves look like an orchid, but the stem with further leaves suggests otherwise.
No idea.

If you don't have any luck here email the picture to Parks and ask them.
I found a nasty looking, spikey, did I say nasty looking plant in the Dandenongs, it looked like an invader of some sort more suited to a tropical rain forest. It took a while but Parks replied and it turned out to be Forest Nightshade and all ok.

I am looking at this on a small screen but are they definitely leaves further up the stem? Could it be looking down on top of the flower?

Possibly a juvenile Clematis Aristata.

Leaves too broad I think for Clematis.

Very similar, but. It does look like a juvenile vine of some type.

Agree. Very similar to to Clematis aristata but your plant has rounder leaves. Having said that the same species of plant can look different in different areas/environments.
Here is a photo of C. aristata from Friends of Tarra-Bulga National Park website for comparision.
