Mt. Clear & Square Top Water

Postby Cauchs » Tue 16 Apr, 2019 10:58 am

Hi,

Considering a trip up around Mt. Clear and Square Top over Easter. Does anyone have a recent update on water availability?

I have found a few of the old reliable springs on Mount Clear previously however it has been pretty dry of late. I have never been over Square Top either so not sure of water availability there.

If no recent experience in the immediate area, how are high elevation springs in other parts of the High Country fairing?

Thanks in advance!

I would carry water. The Clear Creek headwaters should be flowing albeit trickling slowly .You can access them from an overgrown old bench cut jeep track that faces south .Take a pump up water filter.

Thanks Paidal.

As suspected it was pretty dry. My usual spring on top of clear was very slow and muddy, I didn't bother dropping down as I only needed a quick top up.

I found a creek up on top of Square top but it involved a bit of a scrub bash. It allowed me to spend the extra night in the area though.
