VICNAMES search function

Fri 04 Sep, 2020 11:55 am

Like other states and territories, Victoria has a place names website
https://maps.land.vic.gov.au/lassi/VicnamesUI.jsp
The map is not that helpful for places. I was looking up the Crosscut Saw and found this.

The red circle is Mt Howitt Walking Track and the yellow circle is the Macalister River. Buller, the refuge hut and the Devils Staircase seem to be in the wrong places. The foot track is very hard to see. The maps are better in built up areas, but there are shortcomings. One search led to the street being shown with names overlapping.

Is the search function working satisfactorily, and if not, what needs to be done to make it work?

Throw it all away and start again?

NNW, that works for me. Andrew, thanks. Although it takes a while to load and I need to decrypt the instructions, it looks good.

A good Victorian map with details right down to what looks like about 1:10k is the Victorian Emergency map. Pity is the search function is questionable as it couldn't find the Crossscut Saw.
