Walhalla to Baw Baw 3-dayer

Due to coronavirus I’m now in Melbourne for Christmas/New Year.

I’m thinking of doing a three-day hike from Walhalla to Mt Baw Baw and return.

Outline plan:
Day 1 - Walhalla to somewhere near Mt Erica.
Day 2 - Mt Baw Baw pub for lunch then return to somewhere near Mt Erica.
Day 3 - return to Walhalla.

Does this sound feasible?
Plus, does anyone have current info on the water situation?

Notes: I’m very experienced and used to big distances (I find less than 25 km a day boring). I also carry gear to treat water if available but can carry enough water for the 1.5 days each way if needed.

Hello,ChrisJHC the kms and days shan't be an issue for you given your indicated km/day and experience, time for a 1km side trip to bag Mt St Gwinear.
OSheas mill site to Mt Erica carpark can be tedious after you hit Mt Erica road.
Can't give current water situation, however should not be an issue at this time of year at; Poverty point on the Thomson river, OSheas mill site, usually a gully or three along Mt Erica road, AAWT track after it leaves Mt Erica car park, Talbot hut site, springs in the bogs nth of intersection of AAWT and St Gwinear track (rock shelter). Day two beers should rehydrate at lunch and plenty of time for exploration.

I'm pretty sure Poverty Point Bridge is closed with a detour at Mormon Town Track along the western side of the river.

Hi, was wondering if anyone has done this hike as I am interested in doing this.

You could start at Mt. Erica car park and focus on the Baw Baw Plateau overall. You can camp in many places on the plateau as long as you can find water. If you head for Mt. Whitelaw Hut ruins or even Stronarch's camp as your turn around point then you could squeeze 3 days of walking out of the terrain and visit the ski village. Usually you can get a meal of some sort , a hot drink of tea/ coffee/ chocolate /or /and a beer up there in the off season.
The track clearing working bee from Mt. St . Phillack Saddle to Stronarch's camp on the AAWT with BTAC is set for the second weekend in April. It could snow , rain or be warm and humid.
