Water on Bluff Track

Postby Maxp20 » Sun 27 Aug, 2023 5:53 pm

Hi all,

I'm sure this has been covered somewhere, but I couldn't find it.

I have the GDA Map 1:50,000. Between Bluff Hut and Lovick's Hut on the Bluff Track, it suggests there area number of spots to get water - see the image. Does anyone know if these are reliable, especially over summer? I understand the tanks at the huts can be unreliable, so wondering if these other springs/water sources are reliable?

Thanks

I have walked through there but did not seek for water at any of those places.
However, there was a comment about water at - https://bushwalk.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... er#p347198
and at https://bushwalk.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... er#p439343
and https://bushwalk.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... er#p427699.
I try to walk in late Spring so that water availability is not too great a concern in that part of the world.

Thanks Eggs, much appreciated.

Yeah, I'll be looking to go early December, so hopefully there'll be a bit around still.

I was up that way just prior to Christmas last year and though not on Bluff Track there was a small stream of water flowing from Bluff Waters campsite.

There was also water running south at the back of the horse yards at Bluff Hut, but it was a reasonably wet Spring last year.

I've scored water from the one SW of Mt Lovick earlyish in a hot, dry summer. On the same trip, I either missed the one to the NW or it was dry.
