Girraween Vintage Landscapes 1966 - 1974

Postby tecais » Fri 14 Dec, 2012 5:37 am

I just posted an album of my scanned Kodachromes taken on bushwalks around Girraween from 1966 to 1974. Naturally there are lots of better images on the web but some may be interested in these old pictures for historical reasons. I thought of posting this in the Gallery section but think the regional interest is more relevant.

Colour may not be reproduced faithfully owing to differences in equipment and deterioration of film over time. I left the pictures pretty much as recorded on film, except for some post processing after digitization to compensate for the more obvious problems. These included dust, scratches, fungus, fading and colour balance, so do not judge too harshly.

Back then we knew the area as Wyberba and visited mostly for the walking and scrambling, although the potential for technical rock climbing started to be recognized and developed as well. There were no formal tracks and we roamed cross country at will, particularly over exposed granite slabs that were preferable to pushing through the bush.

The Pyramids, Mt. Norman and Bald Rock were the prized main summits and we ranged over most other outcrops as well, although I don't know if they had any name then. Here then is the link and I hope the landscape has been preserved
better than my slides.
