Mt Barney - Eagles Ridge variations

Hey guys,

I just came across this comment left on a wikiloc entry:

As of December 2016, the ridge from the Lower Portals leading up to Tom's Tum is very overgrown with scrubby eucalyptus saplings. If you try this route, long pants and sleeves are recommended, and allow more time for pushing through scrub.

I'll be heading up to Eagles next weekend and need some info about the trail/route that bypasses the first TT.

Cheers :)

No one knows? Got the info. Follow some sort of ridge that starts from a rocky outcrop on the last hill right before heading down the gate that gives access the Logan river's crossing.

For the record to any future parties that are keen to give the first TT a good miss.

I know the feeling, Mt May to The Steamers was thick with smoky early this morning...so I canned my trip too. :(

There's also a smaller fire in one of the valleys close to Mt Bangalore.

May go for a night walk tonight instead, a little closer to home...

I contacted Barney Lodge and they told me the fire started in the Upper Portals and went down to the LP; then, wind changed direction again and it spread towards Mt Ballow and Paddys Peak.

So QLD DNP has closed the entire area: Mt Ballow, Barney and Maroon.

Enjoy your mini-hike! ;)
