Hi all,

Has anyone done the 5 day Kangaroo Island walk recently? You can't do it in one go at the moment, have to be shuttled in and out by licensed tour operators.

Cheapest option I've seen is $210 plus nightly accomodation. Just wondering what the walk itself is like to decide if it's worth it?

I’d be waiting for cooler weather, particularly as there won’t be too much shade.

Try the Western KI Caravan Park - they do transfer packages: https://westernki.com.au/kangaroo-islan ... ess-trail/

The cliffs of between Rocky River mouth and the Cape De Couedec Lightstation offer very little shade. Views of the Cape and casurina Islets are Spectacular.
+1 for recommending Western KI Caravan Park. Not sure if the 'Beckwiths' are still owners of the CP, if so they could advise of the best way to do the whole walk.

2 years ago, very much enjoyed it and recommend Western caravan park as a place to stay and for the shuttle service. One of our group wanted to do it by camping along the trail, the camping sites were well set up with lovely new toilet blocks etc . Haven't seeen it since it was burnt
We took advantage of the BookThemOut promotion - $15 each way, which Sealink generously extended after Covid and other lockdowns even though we had to change the dates several times - to return for a day walk from Penneshaw to the Ironstone hill hike last November. (Which is down as 4.2km return, but that doesn't included the walk from the ferry. ) NIce half day walk, take a flyveil

And the cost from Western includes the Wilderness Trail permit which they arrange.

Yes I definately wasn't thinking right now... already have the next few hikes planned. Thinking maybe September/ October?

The Wilderness KI park sounds like the go for sure!

Should be a lot more regrowth by then.

There may be some online updates by Parks SA, or tourism / wildlife monitoring bodies that you can tap into, showing the recovery levels and updating photos. Again the caravan park should be able to help you out with this.

I did the track in September 2019 with my daughter and several others as a full 5 day backpack. Included in our group were 3 day walkers that stayed in a cabin at Western KI CP. I suggest reading the trip
report which is quite thorough by Jobell, and not so thorough by me.

We all loved it and the coastal scenery is well worth the effort.
