Tabletop track NT

Postby AnnC » Wed 14 Apr, 2021 8:16 pm

Hi everyone. We are hoping to do the Tabletop track in mid August, but have read that some people wouldn't recommend it due to the heat and that the waterholes might be dry. This is the only time we can do it though. For people who may have done it at this time - are we crazy or is it possible? We are experienced bushwalkers but will be coming from Victorian winter!!

August is still well and truly in the dry, if it's too hot then it's probably too hot all the time. True that waterholes might be dry I guess, at least down here in Alice, but no idea about further up north. There is a lot more rain up that way in general.

August is one of the coldest months of the year, so like biggbird I'd say if you can't do it then, you can't do it ever. I'm a Darwin local and I'd totally do it in August. It is towards the end of the dry, so the waterholes will be at their driest, but from memory all of the campsites are by permanent waterholes, that I've happily filled up at.
Florence Falls and Wangi have tap water too I think.
Walker Creek definitely has permanent water.
The other sites I'm not sure about in August, but did have water when I did it many years ago in June.
Drinking should have enough water, just maybe not heaps to swim in.

have fun!
