The Needles

Last month we were driving back from Strathgordon and thought we'd give The Needles a crack. The weather was perfect, we actually managed to find the start of the track (after sifting through numerous conflicting reports, both face to face and online) and the views were just sensational!
Well worth the effort!
You'll find my detailed track notes, and some photos taken at various stages of the climb,
here.
Enjoy!
Andrew.

Nice work. Certainly the best short walk in SW Tas!

It's certainly up there. For me the top three short walks are probably Hartz Peak, Crescent Bay and The Needles. Hard to pick a winner because they all offer something different.

Thanks for the great trip notes. hope to do next time visiting Tas & Mt Field area. Going Hill Between Stephens & Spain Bays is my favourite short day walk in SW but it is a long walk or kayak in. Hartz Mt is a favourite but haven't done the other one mentioned. Does anyone have trip notes for that please.
Safe travels Greg

Thanks for the info. You're very lucky living in Tas with all the great walking available. Multi-day hiking & kayaking in the SW is my favourite but I also enjoy longer day hikes when I am in Tassie touring for a few weeks. I have a copy of 'Discover Tasmania - 60 Great Short Walks' booklet. Are you aware of a similar publication which lists longer day walks e.g. Wineglass Bay carpark to Mt Freycinet return. Last time I visitied I bought the topo maps for different areas; e.g. Mt Field, Cradle Mt, WOJ, etc; & made up my own walks which worked really well for me. However if there is a guide that would be helpful. Have a great day. Greg
