Best Books/Guides for Walks Australia-Wide or Victoria-only?

Postby gisnd » Tue 30 Nov, 2021 11:01 pm

Hi there all,

If you had to recommend a book or guide on walks (single or multi day), which would you recommend? I'm looking for an Australia-wide book and a Victoria-specific book

Thanks in advance!

Kind regards

Sophie

The various editions of Tyrone Thomas "150 Walks in Victoria" are helpful. More recently I've spent time on AllTrails https://www.alltrails.com/ looking at various Victoria trails that are logged.... maps, info and walkers individually logged walks (with photos etc). I've only looked at Vic but this is an international site so it would serve you equally well for the other states in Australia.

And, of course, there are lots of great route reports here, from all states.

I'd recommend your local library. Even if they don't have them they can get them in on "an inter library loan". This way you get to read them and select the one, best for you, to buy. You can search on 'trove' to see which libraries have what books.. https://trove.nla.gov.au/ (change the 'all categorizes' to 'books and libraries') A simple search got https://trove.nla.gov.au/search/categor ... 20Victoria

If you get sick of a lack of guidebooks you can also just write your own!
